Oblong 8vo (postcard). ½ page.
Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau.
Specialized in fairy-tale themes, Werenskiold illustrated the "Norske Folkeeventy", a popular collection of folk tales, in 1879, as well as a luxury edition of Snorri Sturluson's legends, and decorated the interior of Fridtjof Nansen's villa in Lysaker with fairy tale motifs. His sitters included such prominent contemporaries as Henrik Ibsen.
A few small ink spots and creases. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
