Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau.
A founding member of the Munich Secession, Zügel was a prominent Impressionist painter, preferably depicting domestic and farm animals in interaction with man, frequently in dramatic or humorous situations, and spent over 40 years on a theme he called "Heavy Labour", showing a team of oxen plowing.
A few small ink spots and creases; small round stamp erased. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
