Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau.

His style combining elements of both Historicism and Art Nouveau, Zwintscher published his series "Jahreszeiten" and "Das Gewitter" in 1898 and 1900, created numerous portraits, and was appointed professor at the Dresden Academy in 1903.

Traces of postmarks; some small ink spots. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
