Lamartine, Alphonse de, French author, poet, and statesman (1790-1869). Autograph letter signed.

[Florence, between 1825 and 1828].

8vo. 1 p. With autograph address.

Dinner invitation addressed to a "Monsieur de Labruère", written during Lamartine's time as secretary at the French embassy in Florence: "J'ai été vous voir hier pour vous demander si vous vouliez diner aujourd'hui avec nous, car on ne se rencontre pas autrement et j'ai bien à cœur de Vous rencontre souvent [...]". The recipient was probably a descendant of the French historian and diplomat in Rome, Charles-Antoine Leclerc de La Bruère (1716-54).

Alphonse de Lamartine was already famous for his "Médiations poétiques" (1820), when he went to Florence to work for the embassy. His stellar political career started after his return to Paris in the 1830s.

Traces of folds. Somewhat creased and stained with several minor tears.
