To a colleague with thanks for sending some issues of the recipient's "Revue Bordelais", which Drumont had got to know during a vacation in Caen. Drumont states that he sees the recipient's real talent as a writer fully revealed, points out the journal's rising popularity among certain interest groups, and mentions a recent publication of a popular and illustrated edition of Drumont's "La France juive": "D'ici à quelque jours la France juive paraitre dans une edition populaire illustrée qui m'a été demandée de tous les cotés [...]".

Édouard Drumont gained fame throughout Europe in the late 19th century for his antisemitic work "La France juive", published in several editions from 1886 onwards, and reached the peak of his notoriety during the Dreyfus Affair, in which he was the most strident of Alfred Dreyfus's accusers.
