First edition of this modern classic of alchemy with an autograph inscription to the French engineer and occultist René Alleau (1917-2013): "À l'ami, au disciple, affectueusement, fratenerellement, cette franche contribution à l'étude de la vieille Science d'Hermès; [...]".

Eugène Canseliet (1899-1982) was the most important alleged student of the mysterious alchemist known as Fulcanelli. According to his own account, Canseliet discovered alchemy at the age of 13 and studied under Fulcanelli between 1916 and 1922, together with the sons of Ferdinand de Lesseps. During that time he frequented esoteric circles in Paris and the salon of the De Lesseps family, where Anatole France was a regular guest. After working briefly for a gas factory in Sarcelles, Canseliet first returned to Paris and then lived in different parts of France, dedicating his life to alchemical experiments and studies. As the identity of Fulcanelli has never been revealed, some believe that Canseliet was actually Fulcanelli.

Binding slightly bumped and rubbed, hinges starting. Occasional minor tears; a continuous old waterstain affecting the upper and right margins.
