To a "Maître", according to a collector's note the actor and professor Louis Monrose, with apologies for not being able to meet the recipient due to rehearsals at the Gymnase: "Je vous prie de recevoir tous mes regrets, je répéte aujourd'hui a une heure au Gymnase et comme le devoir passe avant le plaisir, ej suis obligée de m'y conformer, ne m'en veuillez pas, mon cher Maître, et permettez moi de croire qu'une autre je serai plus heureuse et trouverai toujours près de vous, le bon accueil que vous m'ayez témoigné".

A student of François-Joseph Regnier at the Paris conservatory, Marie-Anne Angelo was a promising young actor. Following her 1865 debut at the Comédie-Française, Angelo was engaged at the Gymnase in 1867, where she performed until 1874, when she permanently left the stage. Angelo is also known as an early mentor of Réjane.
