Both to his friend, the playwright and poet Maurice Pottecher, concerning meetings. In the charming earlier postcard, Schwob informs Pottecher that he will visit the famous sculptor Camille Claudel (1864-1943) the following afternoon in order to bid farewell to her brother Paul Claudel ahead of his diplomatic posting to New York, and asks Pottecher whether he should pick him up on the way there: "J'ai reçu votre télégr. trop tard pour vous répondre avant. Impossible malheureusement. Je vais demain chez M.lle Claudel dire adieu à son frère entre 2h et 3h après-midi. Faut-il passer vous prendre ? Votre ami".

About a month later, Schwob writes to announce to his friend that he will pick him up the following day after lunch for a trip to Cherville: "J'irai vous prendre demain après votre déjeuner entre 1h et 1h½ pour aller à Cherville".

The poet and playwright Paul Claudel (1868-1955) served as French vice-consul in New York from April to December 1893. His most important posting as consul in China followed in 1895, where he served until 1909 with two interruptions. Paul Claudel's role in the permanent commitment of his elder sister Camille Claudel to psychiatric institutions from March 1913 was already controversial at the time, as doctors and friends like Jessie Lipscomb raised serious doubts regarding Claudel's alleged insanity.
