The complete letter can be dated to 1954/55, when Nimier worked for the short-lived magazine "Le Nouveau Femina". He informs an unnamed author and friend that despite general praise, his short story was not chosen for publication in the magazine due to questions of "morality". Nimier was clearly embittered by the decision and mocks Le Nouveau Femina by likening it to La Semaine de Suzette, a magazine aimed at young girls: "Les dames de la maison trouvent votre nouvelle très bien, mais un vent de moralité souffle sur cet immeuble. Les situations respectives de vos personnages risquent de pervertir notre pauvre pays blessé. (Ce n'est pas pour m'étonner !) - Résumé : je suis bien triste de travailler à 'La Semaine de Suzette'".
The fragmented letter was addressed to an unidentified homme de lettres who had apparently vowed not to write anymore and had "declared war on writing". Nimier teases the recipient, asserting that he "already forces him to write" his "admirable letters". In closing, he mentions the summer heat in Paris, jokingly lamenting that "people have nothing in common with ice cubes".
