Rare collection of 16th century Italian poetry, comprising works by Torquato Tasso, Ottavio Rinuccini, Pietro Metastasio, and Giovanni Battista Guarini. With a portrait frontispiece showing Torquato Tasso as a classical Roman poet wearing a laurel wreath.
This fine compilation includes Tasso's 1573 play "Arminta", featuring a separate title-page, and the pastorale "Euridice" by Rinuccini, as well as 18 sonnets and 74 madrigals by Guarini. The engraved title-page bears the same place and date as the letterpress one, but differs in the printer's name, bearing the imprint "presso J. Binns, E. Greenwood, e da varj libraj in Londra".
Binding slightly rubbed; corners lightly bumped. Pagination jumps from 86 to 89. Contemporary handwritten shelfmark to flyleaf, engraved title-page loosened, otherwise very well preserved. Not a single copy in auction records.
