Weimer, Marguerite-Joséphine, known as Mademoiselle George, French actress (1787-1867). Autograph letter signed.

N. p. o. d., "le 31", n. y.

8vo. 1 p.

To an unnamed count, asking him whether he had already received a response in an urgent matter: "Vous avez eu la bonté d'indiquer ma lettre ! Avez-vous une réponse ? Vous comprenez-mon impatience, n'est-ce pas ! et vous m'excuserez de mon importunité !". The letter can be dated to Mademoiselle George's final years based on the handwriting.

Victor Hugo, Théophile Gautier, Alexandre Dumas père, and Eugène de Mirecourt considered Mlle. George the most powerful interpreter of tragic roles of her age. Today she is best remembered for being the lover of both Napoleon Bonaparte and his antagonist, the Duke of Wellington.

With staple holes. Well preserved.
