First edition of de Gaulles' war memoirs (the first of the three volumes published), inscribed, dated and signed by the General to the great-grandson of Karl Marx, the French politician Paul Longuet (1909-79): "à Paul Longuet, bien cordialement et en souvenir de la grande épreuve. 22.8.58. C. de Gaulle".

Paul Longuet was the son of the socialist Edgar Longuet, whose parents were the Proudhonist Charles Longuet and Marx's eldest daughter, Jenny Caroline.

Slight foxing to endpapers. The final page states: "Cet ouvrage, tiré sur spécial mat des Papeteries Teka, a été achevé d'imprimer, le 15 Novembre 1954, sur les presses de l'Imprimerie Plon, a Meaux (Seine-et-Marne)"; numéro de publication: 7687; numéro d'impression: 6690.
