First edition. The theologian and historian Rathlef (1709-68) wrote on various scholarly subjects. The present volume contains the first four parts of his bio-bibliographical manual which by 1744 would comprise eight parts. The work was conceived as a continuation of Götten's "Jetztlebendes gelehrtes Europa", on which Rathlef himself had collaborated. Four more parts would be added in 1745-48 by J. C. Strodtmann.

Contains biographies (with lists of works) of Johann Barbeirak, Conyers Middleton, Augustin Calmet, J. J. Moser and many others, as well as lists of the scholars and professors of Ansbach, Nuremberg, Würzburg, Prague, Zurich etc.

Binding rubbed and bumped. Interior shows insignificant brownstaining, but generally a good, clean copy.
