Pretty English translation of Fénélon's famous didactic novel, written for his student, the seven-year-old Duc de Bourgogne (grandson of Louis XIV and second in line to the throne). Published anonymously (and against the author's intentions) in 1699, it was widely perceived as a criticism of the King's absolutist rule and was translated in many languages.

Bindings slightly rubbed; hinges well-preserved; interior slightly browned due to paper.
