Spicilegium antiquitatis sive variarum ex antiquitate elegantiarum vel nocis luminibus illustratarum vel recens etiam editarum fasciculi [...].
Folio. (8), 167, (1) pp. With 11 engraved head- and tailpieces, 6 engraved initials, 5 engraved plates, and 101 engravings in the text (many half-page- or full-page-sized). Contemporary vellum with giltstamped spine label.
Beger was one of the greatest archaeologists and numismatists of his age (cf. ADB II, 271ff.). The fine, large engravings show coins, gems, inscriptions, reliefs, statues, etc.
Variously browned and brownstained. Front hinge beginning to split at bottom; old gnawing marks at edge of front cover. Half-title loosened; old library duplicate stamp on title page. Insignificant tear to edge of p. 87f. All depictions of nudity in the engravings have been censored by a contemporary owner, who covered the offensive portions of the image with inked aprons or cross-hatching. Altogether a good, wide-margined copy.
