Mabellini was among the leading Italian composers of his time, particularly of operas and other vocal music. From 1859 to 1874, he was the director of the Florentine Philharmonic Society. In 1868, Mabellini contributed the Lux aeterna to Giuseppe Verdi's project for a collective composition of a Requiem for Gioacchino Rossini by the most important Italian composers. In his later years, Mabellini's style was considered outdated and he struggled to find an audience, composing mostly for private clients and tutoring.

Well preserved.
