"The first important periodical for children" (Merget). Weiße (1726-1804) is considered the father of German children's and YA literature; his "Kinderfreund" was the first German journal for children ever published.

Beautiful bindings with minute worming to lower edge of the first two volumes, otherwise perfect and largely spotless. From the library of Duke Max Joseph in Bavaria (1808-88), father of Empress Elisabeth of Austria.
