[Uniforms]. Armée Française.

Probably France, ca. 1885.

Oblong 8vo (234 x 146 mm). 59 uniforms, 16 horses and 4 mules on 41 plates. Watercolour raised in gilt, silver, and egg-white. Original embossed and illustrated cloth album. All edges gilt.

Charming watercolour album depicting the uniforms of the French army in the late 19th century, including 16 plates of cavalry units, 4 of mules carrying ordnance and strongboxes, and several legendary colonial units such as the Chasseurs d'Afrique, the Spahis, Zouaves, Turcos, and Tirailleurs Tonkinois.

Paper slightly browned evenly; binding rubbed and bumped at extremeties but still very appealing.
