Intimate, effusive love letter and dedicatory poem written for Candlemas 1827 (poem) and for the 21st birthday of the singer Nanette Schechner, who hailed from Munich, first performed in Vienna in 1826, and became engaged to the singer Ludwig Cramolini. Together with him she sang for Beethoven, visited him several times, and upon Beethoven's death had Cramolini bring her a lock of hair from the great composer's head (as Cramolini recounted in his memoirs). It has not been possible to establish whether the present lock of hair has any connection to this episode.
