Fine handwritten, calligraphic description of a perfect horse's anatomy, explaining its ideal proportions. Located in the centre is a printed horse study taken from Bourgelat's "Treatise on the choice and care of horses they require" ("Traité du choix des chevaux et des soins qu'ils exigent", 1769).

The founder of veterinary colleges at Lyon in 1761, Claude Bourgelat, was as an oft-consulted authority on horse management.
