To Maria Eleonora of Brandenburg (1599-1655), once a candidate for his hand in marriage and now the widow of the Swedish King Gustaf II Adolf, who had already passed away in 1632, assuring her how deeply her husband's death affected him, and assuring her of his friendship: "Quanto afficiamur morte Seren.mi Electoris Srt.is, V.ra optimi quondam Mariti, maerore inde intelligat, quod fida, et constans, semper Nobis cum eo amicitia, quod vixit, intercesserit [...]".

After the death of her husband, the Swedish court viewed Maria Eleonora with suspicion, and in 1640 she secretly escaped to Denmark, where she was received with honours.
