To a Mr Paulus: "You are a good man. I had intended writing you from Nürnberg, but really the heat became so great I could do nothing but drink beer and other liquids. Thanks to your interest on my behalf I got one of the best seats in the house at Bayreuth and was well repayed for going. I arrived in London yesterday and remain at the Arundel Hotel till Friday when I go home [...] I shall always have the very happiest memories of Munich and your and Frau Paulus' kindness [...]".
