Sending his signature to an unnamed addressee in response to a request: "M. Cavaignac envoie volontiers sa signature pour repondre à la demande qui lui est adressée".
Cavaignac was Minister of War in Brisson's cabinet from 28 June to 5 September 1898, during the climax of the Dreyfus Affair. In July 1898 he read in the chamber a document which definitely incriminated Dreyfus. On 30 August he stated that this had been discovered to be a forgery by Colonel Henry, but refused to concur with his colleagues on a revision of Dreyfus's prosecution.
Trace of old folding.
