German-Italian libretto for Legouvé's "Medea" adaptation which premiered on 18 February 1858 at the Carl-Theater in Vienna's Leopoldstadt district, where Nestroy served as director from 1854 to 1860. The actors' names are corrected by hand, and Nestroy signed the secretary's presentation note for the board of censorship. The censor passed the text without any changes; his handwritten endorsement is at the end of the text. The performance with Adelaide Ristori in the title role marked the beginning of a series of twelve shows staged by the Italian theatrical company of Luigi Bellotti-Bon (1820-83). Nestroy's contribution to the play's success was noted in the press (cf. Die Presse no. 40, 19 Feb. 1858, p. 2).

Corners of upper cover carefully repaired.
