[Reformation sammelband]. Luther, Martin. Vermanung zum Sacrament des Leibes und Bluts unsers Herren.

(Leipzig, Nikolaus Wolrab), 1542.

8vo. (64) ff. (including final blank). (Bound after) II: Schenck, Jakob. Von den heiligen Sacramenten, der Tauffe, und des Leibs und Bluts Jhesu Christi. Leipzig, (N. Wolrab), 1542. (164) ff. (Bound with) III: The same. Auslegung des christlichen Glaubens. Ibid., 1542. (80) ff. (including final blank). (Bound with) IV: The same. Das heilige Vater unser. Mit einer Vorrede von dem Gebet. (Ibid.), 1542. (156) ff. All with woodcut title border. Blindstamped pigskin with pretty roll-stamps (coats of arms and classical poets), dated "1542". Preserves one of two clasps.

Fine sammelband comprising a work by Luther (9th impression, first published in Wittenberg in 1530) and three very rare works by the Upper Swabian reformer Jakob Schenck (1508-54) who had fallen out with his former teachers Luther and Melanchthon. He moved to Leipzig in 1541, hoping for a teaching and preaching position, but made himself numerous enemies who obstructed the printing of his works (cf. ADB XXXI, 51).

Title page of first work torn off at lower edge; contemp. ownership (dated 1642) on front pastedown. Binding somewhat bumped at the lower extremeties, but blind-stamped covers are well-preserved.
