Satirical romance about a little dog from Bologna, “a place famous for lap-dogs and sausages” (p. 11), by the Cambridge poet F. Coventry, who died of small-pox around 1759. “Several characters were intended for ladies well known in contemporary society” (DNB). Lady Mary Montagu remarked about the work, first published in 1751, that it gave "a real exact representation of Life as it is now acted in London". Plates and title page engraved after drawings by Richard Corbould (1757-1831; cf. Thieme/Becker VII, 396f.).
