First printing of this German edition, based on a complete translation prepared by Antoine Galland (1646-1715). The so-called "Galland ms." which he had bought in 1701 is the oldest Arabic text extant (dating from 1450 or later). Maximilian Habicht (1775-1839) lived in Paris for a decade as a member of the Prussian delegation. He knew vernacular Arabic well and separately published an edition of the Arabic text of the "Nights" (cf. Fück).

Slightly browned; bookplates of the Viennese collector Rudolf Jelinek on pastedowns; collector's stamps to titles.
