First printing of the first postwar edition, previously published in 1938 by Querido in Amsterdam as volume 2 of the author's "Das Land ohne Tod". Inscribed in German by Döblin on the half-title: "Dear Mr Lüth, once more a volume of mine - do not be alarmed; 70 years are a long time - and then, if you ever start taking stock and wander through the stacks... / Yours, Alfred Döblin" (dated 21 January 1947). Paul Lüth (1921-86) served as editor-in-chief of the Wiesbaden literary journal "Der Bogen" (subtitled "The first German postwar journal") from 1946 to 1948, which was financed by the U.S. as well as by Döblin.

Ownership stamp "Bibliothek Paul Lüth" inside front cover. Slightly browned throughout due to paper; extremeties slightly bumped, but a fine copy.
