A Splendid Musical Manuscript

Gounod, Charles, French composer (1818-1893). Autograph musical manuscript.

[Paris, c. 1855?].

Oblong folio. 13 pages.

A splendid musical manuscript, being a "Gloria in excelsis Deo", apparently for one of Gounod's Masses. Although Gounod is probably best known for his opera "Faust", several of the arias from which have passed into popular repertories, he is familiar to the music-lover for his great masses which are among the finest productions in the field of liturgical music. The present manuscript is the vocal score of the "Gloria" from one of these compositions. It is divided into the four vocal parts, each scored separately, and has the words of the Gloria written in Gounod's autograph. While any complete musical manuscript of this great composer is highly desirable, one such as this is particularly so.
