Second edition of the main work; includes the first edition of the supplementary fourth volume with a slightly different subtitle ("Cyclopaedia of the Condition and Earnings of Those That Will Work ..."), which deals exclusively with those who will not work - in particular, prostitutes, thieves, swindlers and beggars. This volume includes contributions by various other authors. "A groundbreaking and influential survey" of the poor population of London, based upon newspaper articles in the Morning Chronicle, and first published in bookform between 1851 and 1862. A few of these articles are here found bound at the end of the supplementary volume.

Inner hinges of vol. 3 weak, very light wear to spine ends. Generally in fine condition.
