First and only edition, very rare. The author was a school teacher commissioned by the Austrian government to visit foreign institutions for the care and education of neglected children. He visited institutions in Belgium (Ruysselede, Wynghene and Beernem), France (Mettray), Germany (the "Rauhe Haus" in Horn and a few other institutions), and Switzerland (Sonnenberg in Luzern, the Pestalozzi-Stiftung in Olsberg). Three lithographs concern the institution of Ruysselede (now Ruiselede): "a keeper and 2 pupils, a cabin boy and a farm hand" (25 x 32 cm), a bird's-eye view (62 x 30 cm), and a plan of the institution (44 x 31 cm). The fourth plate is a plan with a front view of the Mettray colony (31 x 44 cm).

Shelfmarks and stamps (Bezirks-Lehrer-Bibliothek Korneuburg and Museumverein Korneuburg) to title. Very rare. We could locate five copies, only one outside Austria (University of Marburg).
