To Fanny Horner Byrne (1789-1876), wife of the Irish revolutionary and soldier in the Napoleonic army Myles Byrne: "Thanks for your letter & the trouble you have taken. If I can carry my Co-Trustees with me, we will make a Grant to the Institution whose cause you so ably plead". Little is known of the recipient Fanny Horner Byrne. The Byrne family lived in exile in Paris, where Myles Byrne was buried in 1862 and his wife published his memoirs in 1864. It is not clear whether Fanny Byrne returned to Britain permanently or was visiting when she received John Bowrings letter addressed to the famous geologist Charles Lyell, husband of Fanny's niece Mary Horner Lyell.
On stationery with embossed seal of the Athenaeum Club. Folded and with slight traces of former mounting.
