Sardi, Pietro. Il capo de' bombardieri essaminato, & approvato dal generale dell' artiglieria [...].

Venice, Giunta, 1641.

4to. (28), 156 pp. With woodcut title-vignette and several woodcut initials. Modern boards with handwritten title-label to spine.

 600.00

First edition. This rare work on artillery by the military scientist Pietro Sardi (1560-1639) also exists bearing the date 1639 on the title-page, which probably results from an error, as the dedication is dated 1640 (cf. Cockle), as in the present edition. Sardi is also the author of two other works on artillery, "Corona imperiale dell' architettura militare" (1618) and "L'artiglieria di Pietro Sardi, Romano, divisa in tre libri" (1621).

Untrimmed. Foot of spine somewhat rubbed. First pages somewhat browned; two tiny wormholes to title-page; occasional brownstaining. From the collection of Thomas Fremantle, 3rd Baron Cottesloe (1862-1956), commander of the Territorial Army and president of the Society for Army History Research.
