207 sample cards with designs for earrings, ear clips, pendants, brooches and others.
137 x 269 mm - 350 x 40 mm. 207 cards with an average of 9-58 illustrations per leaf in black ink or pencil, often colourized. Partly multiply numbered and stamped with sample, model and manufacturer's numbers.
Appealing collection of Art Deco sample cards from the golden age of the glass, metal and enamel bijouterie based at Gablonz (Jablonec nad Nisou) in Bohemia. The so-called "Gablonz Industrie" (or Bijouterie) resulted from a mid-19th century merger of some 4,000 small and medium-size businesses producing and selling jewellery of this type.
The sample cards presumably reflect the offers of several distributors. The 137 smaller cards (137 x 269 mm) are carried out in pencil and are only partially coloured. They mostly bear two numbers (probably the model number and the manufacturer's identification) and sometimes also short descriptions ("Clips Altgold gemalt"). The 70 larger cards are usually executed in black ink, are sometimes neatly coloured and show combinations of letters and numbers identifying the corresponding supplier as well as the wholeseller's continuous stock numbers, and sometimes even price calculations or dates.
Somewhat browned and fingerstained in places.
