First edition of this richly illustrated account of Yemen. "Altogether, Manzoni spent nearly a year in Sana'a, which he called 'citta bellissima'. He investigated the city more thoroughly and described it more vividly than any of his predecessors [...] also, he was the first to draw a map of the city" (cf. Henze). The plates show pretty views, including a panorama of Sanaa; the illustrations within the text mostly show the local population. Includes the coloured plan of Sanaa.

Binding a little soiled; occasional light foxing. Rare.
