Simplifying the theory of bivector fields

Einstein, Albert, German physicist and Nobel laureate (1879-1955). Autograph manuscript for "Bivector Fields II" (1944).

N. p. o. d.

4to. 4 pp. on 5 single leaves.

In German, a draft of Einstein's second article on bivector fields, published in the "Annals of Mathematics" in 1944. Following up on the first article, Einstein shows how his theory of bivector fields "can be made very simple by separating the concepts and relations into those based exclusively on the affine connection and those where the affine connectionis specialized by hypotheses on the structure of the field" (Einstein, p. 15).

The present draft contains parts of the original German text. The pagination of the manuscript does not correspond with the printed article. It comprises parts of paragraph 1, the complete paragraphs 3 and 4 of the article, as well as some stricken-out sections. The titles of the subsections have seen revisions beyond mere translation for the publication.

Browned, with two minor tears.
