To the architect Thomas Hamilton (1784-1858) with an addition to his friend's collection: "I send you another specimen for your friend's collection. Sir William Hamilton's autograph - and a cursedly cramp, kittle & confoundedly illegible specimen it is. Mr. Ferrier from whom I got it, could not find among a variety of letters, notes etc. a single one with Sir Wm's name signed at full length - only his initials: so we must not look the gift horse in the mouth - but be thankful to the giver. I hope to be able to get a few more for you of the autographies of our notables [...]".
With traces of former mounting on verso.
