To Charles de Beauregard, editor of "La Gazette de France", apologizing for being unable to come and visit him due to previous engagements outside Paris: "C'est avec un très vif regret, que je me voir privé de vous être agriable cette fois. Des engagements m'appellent loin de Paris [...]".

A student of Platel in Brussels, Batta later settled in Paris (1835) and made many successful concert tours throughout Europe. A regular chamber music partner of Liszt and an intimate of Berlioz, he wrote many original works and fanciful transcriptions for cello and piano.
