Before the premiere of "Le filleule des fées"

Written during the last stages in preparation of the premiere of the ballet "Le filleule des fées" and the opera "Le Fanal" at the Paris Opera, to his friend, the playwright and librettist Henri Saint-Georges, with a detailed discussion of these joint projects and Adam's evaluation of the chosen cast, for instance of the Italian ballet dancer Carlotta Grisi as "Ysaure". Furthermore about the two co-directors of the Paris Opera, of whom only Nestor Roqueplan remains, whereas Edmond Duponchel will resign. Adam also discusses the influence of the former director Louis-Désiré Véron and the collaboration with the set designer Émile Perrin and the choreographer Jules Perrot: "Nestor reste seul Directeur, Duponchel a son Quitus: Véron a soutenu Nestor et lui a fait prêter l'argent nécessaire par des intéresses les créancières. Le ministère avait d'abord fait mine de résister: mais tout s'est arrangé [...]".

"Le Fanal" was to premiere on 24 December 1849, "Le filleule des fées" on 8 October.

On mourning paper and with blindstamped monogram. With a long edge tear along the fold and few minor defects to the margins.
