To the engraver François-Augustin Bridoux (1813-92), apologizing for being unable to attend a dinner: "Je me suis engagé à dîner demain Jeudi chez mon frère, avec plusieurs amis auxquels il a voulu me réunir. Je serai donc privé cette foi du plaisir d'être du vôtre [...]".

Thomas and Bridoux met in Rome after they both had won the Prix de Rome in 1832 and 1834 respectively and resided for several years in the Villa Medici. The letter bears witness to a long-lasting friendship between the two men.

On mourning paper. With traces of former mounting and several minor tears.
