To the composer and teacher Georges Dandelot, politely refusing a patronage, as he did earlier when approached with a similar suggestion by the composer Gustave Charpentier. Dubois' work for the conservatory absorbs him completely. He adds an advertisement for his article on music theory "Traité de Contrepoint de la Fugue" published by "Le Ménestrel" (Paris, 1901): "Je déjà été sollicité il y a quelque temps pour quelque chose d'analogue sur l'initiative de G. Charpentier. Je n'ai pu accepter. On ne peut être de tout, et la Conservatoire m'absorbe suffisamment comme cela si je veux m'y consacrer comme je le dois [...]".
