The orientalist and linguist Sir Edward Denison Ross (1871-1940) was the first director of the University of London’s School of Oriental Studies (now SOAS) from 1916 to 1937.

Published as Benn's Sixpenny Library, No. 19. Removed from the "Institut für Geschichte und Kultur des Nahen Orients an der Universität München" with their stamp on the title-page and additional note "Sheikh, Bagdad" (dated 1928), with additional bibliographical information added at the end.
