To the classicist Heinrich Karl Eichstädt, then serving as director of the Philological Seminary at Jena, requesting biographical and bibliographical information: "You would do me a great kindness if you were to provide me with the following notes which I request: Linné - year of birth; dear of death; Hofrat Büttner: year of birth; year of death; Professor Batsch: first name; year of birth; year of death; Rupp's Flora Jenensis: first edition? [...]" (transl.).

All answers, with the exception of the last, are supplied in Eichstädt's own hand. "Flora Jenensis" by the botanist Heinrich Bernhard Rupp was published in 1718.
