Although best known for his illustrations of the popular 1919 children's book "Peterchens Mondfahrt", Baluschek was a member of the Berlin Secession and a prominent representative of German Critical Realism, his paintings centering on the working class of Berlin.

Traces of stamps. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
