Having started to model life-size groups of animals out of wax at an early age, Bartels-Heimburg won the "Prix d'honneur" at the 1906 exhibition "L'art de la femme" in Paris, her works being acquired by prominent contemporaries including Luitpold, Prince Regent of Bavaria.

Faint traces of a stamp. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
