A co-founder of the artists' group "Skagen painters", Björck specialized in genre and portrait painting, was a professor at the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts from 1889, and Commissar for Art for several exhibitions in Sweden and London between 1897 and 1924.

Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
