A sculptor of moderate Naturalism and a teacher at the Berlin Academy of Arts, Boese is widely known for his monument on the Berlin Siegesallee, showing Albert II, Margrave of Brandenburg, as well as for his 1888 war memorial at the Columbiadamm cemetery in Berlin.

Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
