Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau.

Starting out as a landscape and genre painter, Bouché founded his own studio for glass painting in Munich in 1873 and went on to create many windows for churches as well as secular buildings, and was commissioned with the restoration of the glass paintings in the Regensburg cathedral by the Bavarian government.

Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
