Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau.
Joining the Berlin Secession in 1906, Brockhusen mostly created impressionist landscape paintings inspired by the dunes and beaches of the Belgian and Dutch coasts as well as Brandenburg scenery, and attempted to imitate van Gogh's use of bright colours and expressive brushwork.
Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
