Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau: "Im Besitze Ihres Geehrten sende Ihnen den gewünschten Autograph […]".

After studying and working in Paris and Munich, Buri returned to his native Switzerland in 1898, spezialized in creating portraits of the local peasantry as well as genre scenes, and organised the "First International Art Exhibition of Switzerland" at the Kursaal in Interlaken in 1909.

Traces of a postmark. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
